Actually, my dad salts watermelon as well.  He's also been known to put pepper on cantaloupe... :P

The salt/watermelon combo I grew up with, but I have never heard of pepper on cantaloupe  :o But I'm not a big pepper fan, either. I don't know if the salt w/watermelon is a southern thing, but it happens a lot down here.  ;D
