Topic: CAN Natl Insurance or COuncil tax be an itemized deductions or added to 1116  (Read 1008 times)

I doubt it but wondered if anyone is definate on this one.   Does anyone know if you do anything special with house interst on itemised deduction?

National Insurance - no, it's treated the same as the social security tax that's withheld in the US.
Council Tax - no, it's not a real estate tax, a personal property tax, or an income tax.

THANKS FOR THE REALITY CHECK -- I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD YEARN FOR STATE, LOCAL or REAL ESTATE TAX SO I COULD PUT IT DOWN AS A DEDUCTION! :)

I am not clear why you need deductions since the combination of the foreign earned income exclusion and foreign tax credits usually eliminate US tax bills for most employees?
