What's the difference in flavour between Earl Grey and Lady Grey?

I'm no tea expert but I think Lady Grey has bergamot & orange in it whereas Earl Grey ... doesn't?

Earl Grey has bergamot I think....I have a box at home and it seems to have it...It says not to put whole milk in it because it curdles...

Where would the world be without wikipedia!!? ;)

So Lady Grey has orange and lemon added. Sounds nice! I love the explanation by wikipedia: "At the time it was believed the addition of fruits would counteract improper impulses that tea was widely believed to have upon the female temperament."

Improper impulses!!  :o

I can only speak for Whittard's brand but each and every company has something slightly different to it's blends of Early Grey.

Whittard's Earl Grey - Is a larger leaf blend of Indian and China teas containing bergamont oil. Can be drunk with milk if brewed slightly stronger.

Afternoon Earl Grey is a continental version of Earl Grey often called Lady Grey.  Blended with Orange Pekow for a smooth strength with cornflower blossoms, blue mallow flowers,  and bergamont oil. Again brewed stronger if drunk with milk

Breakfast Earl Grey - specifically designed and blended by Mr. Whittard for his clientele who wanted a stronger Earl Grey to be drunk specifically with milk.  Blend of Indian Teas and bergamont oil.

I too like Earl Grey cold but I don't tell too many people that because they think I am wierd!!   :)

Ceylon and Orange Pekoe are from the same family of teas

That's nice! I like milk in my Earl Grey, so it's good that they made that version. However ... I'm fairly sure there's no decaf version of it, is there? I cannot have any caffeine, and I always feel like I'm losing out on yummy teas. :(

No, I've had that, too. I meant a decaf version of the Breakfast Earl Grey from Whittard's. It just sounded nicer than ordinary old Earl Grey! :)

Ohhh got it.  I put milk in mine though...but yeah I don't know, it's not that special or anything.  I don't think I like the bergamot actually.  I'm sticking to English Breakfast.

I don't like it every day, but once in a while Earl Grey is nice. I'd love to find some decaf Lady Grey, though, so if anyone has heard of any anywhere .......

Do you care if it's in bags?  I think Twinnings sells it here, but I'll have to double-check.  If they do, perhaps you'll be getting a little care package in the mail.... ;)

As several said below, decaf earl grey does exist.  Also, there is a green earl grey.  It's china green tea flavored with bergamont and supposed to be brewed lighter and NO milk added. (not supposed to add milk to green tea anyway).  Green teas have just a small trace amount of caffeine compared to your standard black teas

On a side note, here is what the UK tea council has to say about caffeine and pregnancy:

•   Pregnancy
Caffeine crosses the placenta and achieves blood and tissue concentrations in the foetus that are similar to maternal concentrations. For this reason advice published by the Food Standards Agency  recommends that pregnant women should limit their intake of caffeine consumption to less than 300mg/ day (equivalent to 6 cups of tea/ day). At this level there is little evidence to suggest that the health of the unborn child or mother is affected.

And here is a chart from the UK tea council on the amounts of caffeine:

FOOD                                   TYPICAL CAFFEINE CONTENT
                                                           mg/serving

Instant Coffee
                                      75 mg/190 ml cup
                                                  45mg/190ml*

Brewed Coffee
(Filter or Percolated)   100 – 115 mg per 190 ml cup
                                                  111mg per 190ml cup*
Decaffeinated Coffee
(Brewed or Instant)                        4 mg per 190 ml cup

Tea
50 mg per 190 ml cup
                                                       33 mg per 190ml*
Drinking Chocolate
                                    1.1 – 8.2 mg per 200 ml cup
(when made up as per manufacturer’s instructions)

COLA (Regular & Diet)    11 – 70 mg per 330 ml can

Energy Drinks
(With added caffeine and/or guarana)   28– 87 mg per 250 ml can

Chocolate                                   5.5 – 35.5 mg per 50g bar

Sorry if that is all boring for some of you!  I just thought it was kind of interesting...
