Did you ever dream you were IN a book??

The night before last, I read a chapter or two of the latest Elizabeth George mystery before putting the light off and falling asleep. I actuall dreamt that I was Barbara Havers, a character in the book. If anyone has either read Elizabeth George's books or seen any of the Inspector Lynley stuff on TV, you'll know who I mean. Anyway, in my dream, I actually was this character. I interacted with other characters, I lived in her house, I was working on the case in the book that she was working on. Then I woke up with a start at 5am because I/Barbara Havers had figured out who the murderer was! I'm only about halfway through the book, so technically I have no real idea who did it. But I think I do ... because I/Barbara figured it out.

If that wasn't weird enough ... the same thing happened last night!

Again, I was Barbara Havers. But this time, I had the feeling that something really bad had happened to one (or possibly two?) of the other characters in the book. Again, I haven't gotten much further with the book, so I have no idea if this really happens or not. But I/Barbara am very concerned!

I can't say I've ever dreamed I was the character, but certainly in the story. That's a great sign you are connecting with the book in a subconscious way! It can be seen as good or bad depending on the book. 

Loads of times b/c I fall asleep reading.  I can't go to sleep any other way.

When I was in college, I was taking an anthropology course and I had an exam on early humans.  I had also been taking a psychology course and we were talking about memory,  which translated to studying techniques.  I decided to implement one of the techniques for my anthropology exam - studying last thing before you go to bed and first thing when you get up in the morning.

I had the FREAKIEST dreams, absloutely unreal.  It was kind of like being in the movie "Quest for Fire" but waaaay worse.  Early humans everywhere and me somewhere in the middle!   And I never studied like that again!  Nor have I had dreams like that again..

Saf, you're a little late, damn you!! 

I'm glad I finished the book, though. I think someone ages ago (you perhaps?) posted somewhere that With No One as Witness was worrying, but I still loved it. I mean, it was beautifully written, as are all of the books in the series. Actually, in my dream Hadiyyah was kidnapped and possibly murdered. To me, that would have been far worse than what actually happened.

Can't wait to see what EG will do in the next book!

OMG.  I waited four freaking years for that baby to be born, and I'm still so mad at Elizabeth George I don't know if I'll ever read another of her books.  Especially since rumor has it she eliminated Lady Helen (who I adored) because Tommy and Helen aren't married in the TV movies and the producers of the show wanted her to take the books in a new direction.  I hate the TV movies anyway, and...oh don't even get me started...

I loved it! Lady Helen was OK, but I much prefer the character of Barbara, so I guess I'm more interested in her life and in those around her. Plus, I kind of like it when authors do something really unexpected and sort of shake things up a bit.

I didn't know Tommy and Helen weren't married on TV. I tried watching part of one of the TV episodes once, but didn't like it. The characters didn't look the way I'd always pictured them. It just all felt wrong. Blech.

But, your'e right -- if that was her reason for killing off Helen, it was a stupid one.
