those pots should also make good starting pots for herbs in a windowsill garden

Yum! I make my yogurt too but with the electric maker (which I won't be bringing with me). I too get tired of throwing that plastic away, and it really does taste nice! The yogurt, not the plastic.

It's so easy just from scratch!  I don't even know what the electric thingy does...maybe heats it or something?

Basically I just got a little pint of whole milk and a very small yogurt from the store.  Boiled the milk slowly, so it doesn't scorch on the bottom.  Once it boils, pour it in an oven-proof bowl and put in 2 Tbsp of the yogurt.  Mix that up (with a whisk if you have one, or just a fork) and put it in the oven on low - like either warm or maybe 50 degrees C.

Then leave it as long as you can - if it's during the day, 8 hours or so.  I was doing it at night so I turned off the oven after an hour and just left it overnight.  Don't move the bowl around or it won't set firmly.

That's it!

That does sound easy. I thought it had to sit and "ferment" or something for days!

Yes it is seriously easy.  Oh and of course refrigerate it after it's done - I think you can leave it out a good 10 hours before you need to worry about putting it in the fridge.

I've been eating mine with my dinner the past 3 nights and it's grrrrreat!

The electric thingy just incubates it at the right temperature.

Ahh I wasn't sure but suspected that.  I thought maybe you could make some cool fruit ones with it or something.  But then I guess it'd be called a blender.   :D

Can you add fruit or other flavourings?

You can whatever you want once the yoghut is ready. Don't out it in beforehand because that might upset the process and you'll just end up with sour milk with fruit in it.  :P
