Britwife, I think the mlb.com thing is $10 for streaming audio from your team's home radio network. If I remember correctly, the vast majority of games "available" via video are actually blacked out for whatever reason. But, no matter what, you're guaranteed audio. Its kind of cool listening to your hometown announcers calling the games, though.

Baseball's way better on the radio, anyway -- if you can't be there in person. There's nothing like sitting in the sun on a Sunday afternoon, eyes closed, cold one in your hand, listening to a Sox game! ;D

Man how true is that, at least for baseball. Now if I could find some sun....

And I guess, because of the time difference, it wouldn't be a Sunday afternoon anyway. Oh, well. It was a nice thought.  :-\\\\

1.  You should look at the forums on nfluk.com - there are a few bars that sometime also get the orbit espn feed that may have a different game.
2.  Consider a slingbox.  I have one and tivo and watch sports on it.    www.slingbox.com

Do you get a slingbox through the cable company, or can they be bought at a store like Tivo (I wish with all my heart that I had Tivo.... :\\\'()

A good resource is http://www.slingcommunity.com/

I got mine through Amazon.com

One thing to be aware of is that the person "hosting" the slingbox should have decent broadband upload speed.  I keep mine at my parents outside Philly.  They have only 372 upload speed but the quality is decent.  I have mine hooked up to a Tivo.

I'd be happy to answer more questions but its safe to say the investment was well worth it.  We even sometimes hook it up to our TV in the flat via laptop.

ITV has a pretty good sports selection so I'm always up late watching stuff.  Right now they show the ESPN sunday night baseball games, they come on at like 1 AM.  During football season they show the ESPN Sunday night game live and the Monday night football game live.  THey usually show hockey game once a week as well as an NBA game once a week.  You just have to be willing to either stay up late or get a VCR to tape it.  ANd to whoever said to "assimilate" to the culture.....no offense, but the American sports are the only thing keeping me sane right now.  You can't expect someone to live in the US for 30 years to come over here and just forget about something they had a passion for.  I wouldn't expect a Brit to come to the US and stop trying to do all he/she could from finding a soccer match somewhere on TV.  Some of us are not here to "assimilate."  I can't wait for the day I get to go home.

I hope it is sooner, rather than later (for your sake, of course!)  ;)

Fcksake man, how many more times does this have to be cast up?  I said something stupid, which offended/annoyed some people.  Then, I apologised for said grievous offence... yet, i keep hearing about it!  [smiley=bomb.gif]

I hate American sport, and its very presence here in the UK irritates the crap out of me.
However, i now completely appreciate that some people in the UK do like it, and even CRAVE it... and take back any and all comments I may have previously made about it, especially those regarding assimilation.

lol, sorry Quarter-Gill, didn't mean to rile you up.  Just curious, are you from America and don't like American sport?  or are you from somewhere else living in the UK?  Just curious since you referred to it as "American Sports."

I hope it is sooner, rather than late for me too!  i'm ready to go home.  I miss my SUV :\\\'(

My name is Mindy and I am not interested in American sports.  Nada, zero, zilch.
I used to be a huge NHL fan when I lived in the US(20 years ago) but since I moved here have not watched any.  I don't know when the Superbowl is or who won the World Series.  I am just not interested.  I don't even cheer for Team USA in the Olympics.   :o

things like this intrique me, at what age did you leave the US.  What brought you to the UK.  Do you consider yourself Anti American?

I left at 23; im 43 this year.
Running away from an overbearing family, and chasing after a guy brought me here.
Im not 'anti'- American...  but i am not 'proud' to be American, and a lot of American things, ideas, attitudes, etc make me cringe.
I have lived here (and loved it) most of my adult life, and am now a British citizen.
America means nothing to me, other than being the place i grew up... a long, long time ago.  ;)
That's why i (jokingly) call myself a 'former American'.

Anyway... back to the original subject.... this questioning is making me feel weird!
