Need advice on flagging down buses
« on: April 11, 2006, 12:10:22 PM »
So I am waiting for the bus this morning, and the one I needed was following closely on the heels of a different one. Since I was at a request stop, I needed to flag it but had no clue how to indicate which one I was asking for. Any tips for when they do this?

I let that one go by and waited for the next one.  :-[

If I want a bus that's behind another one, I walk forward a bit and point at the bus as I stick out my hand.

Ok, there is a knack to this.

Estimate where the first bus will stop.  Work out where the back of the first bus will therefore stop, and stand there.  When that goes by you, waive frantcally and the second driver will stop for you.

If the driver sees another bus infront of him he is actually supposed to stop automatically just in case, even at a request stop, so they will be wise to the possibility fo someone trying to hail them.

I am a sad bus geek - let me know if there is anything else I can help you with (short of fare evading tips, they are secret!)

Move out here to the sticks and your dilemma would be solved.

You'll have a hard enough time finding one bus to flag down, nevermind two arriving simultaneously!

I live out in the sticks. We have plenty of buses.

This is what i would do too.
It might sound weird, but i also try to make eye contact with the driver.

I just walk towards where the 2nd bus will stop and stick my hand out, either that or make eye contact with the first bus driver whilst sticking my hand out and shaking my head no - then as soon as i can make eye contact iwth the 2nd driver step nearer to the curb to indicate that i want them.

its never failed for me?

I know this is an oldish post but when I first arrived here I sat at the bus stop for over 30 minutes wondering why the buses never stopped at the stop.  ???  In my home town if your standing at the bus stop the bus will stop.  Didn't realize you needed to flag them down until someone else showed up at the bus stop and did just that.  Felt like a complete boob  :o and my boyfriend laughed his head off when I called to tell him.  The joys of moving to a new place!!
