I've heard about the intensive test thing, apparently they are quite good as it means you can get it out the way very quickly. I don't know anyone personally lately who's done it though (except for a few friends who did the intensive motorbike versions)
I'd suggest swotting up on as much knowledge beforehand, doing the mock tests etc and then booking the course while the info is still fresh in yer mind.
