Can I get a work permit if my spouse is an E.U. citizen?
« on: April 13, 2006, 09:23:19 PM »
I posted this on the "On the Job" board, but I guess that was the wrong place so I'll try again!

My husband is a German citizen and has a job offer in London. As his spouse, can I get a work permit? If so, how do I go about applying?

Thanks!

No you don't need a work permit.  You need an EEA family permit.  A work permit is applied for by an employer on your behalf, it's not something you can apply for yourself.  As the spouse of an EU citizen, you have the right to work and settle in any EU country.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…
