I'm really nervous, but I know I will be relieved, as it has been SO hard to smile and agree when my boss speaks about future projects.
So...my question for everyone is how stressed were you before you moved?  I'm debating what date I should give as my last day of employement.  I move on Wed. 5/24 and am wondering if I should have my last day be Wed. 5/17 or Thurs. 5/18.
I tend to be too nice about things and don't want to get myself into something that will make me want to kick myself in the ass for later.

What day would you give as your last day?  (I can't seem to do anything these days without asking people on this site!-I'm addicted :P)

Make it earlier instead of later.  Seriously.  I worked until 28 Oct., left on the 31st, and it was a  HUGE mistake!!!

If I had it to do again, I would give myself at LEAST a week, two would be even better, between leaving my job and leaving the country...

When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

I would definitely go with the earlier date.  I have a similar problem, but also I have to cover for a co-worker's vacation that she planned before she knew I was leaving (thus I have to stay until the first week of June).  I am really regretting my having to stay on.  I am done on a Friday, and leaving the Monday!  I know that's going to kill me.  Thank goodness my father is flying down to take my car and electronics off my hands!  He will be a big help!  Are you shipping any of your items?

I agree, earlier is better. It gives you time not just to pack and sort but to reflect and say goodbyes.  You're just a little over a month from departure. How excited you must be!

I'm not really taking anything except clothes, books, personal items, etc.., so I won't really need to ship them.  I'm just going to have A LOT of luggage!

My mother is freaking me out because she said they may just fire me because I'm leaving.  I've only been there about a year, but I'd like to think they wouldn't do that.  I'm so nervous now about quitting :(

Mine too....  I've been at my job over four years, but I am worried that when I finally tell them, I'll be out the door.  Even though they tell me daily that they love me.

incurable.gadabout is right.  Give yourself plenty of time.  Even if you aren't taking "much" last minutes issues will seem twice as worse if you are trying to finish your job at the same time.

I agree. And even if you're not busy with packing, you're going to want time to hang out with friends/family and do the whole goodbye thing properly. I recall having a goodbye party every week during my last month or so! ;D

The sooner the better...don't go about for long like you're gonna be there for things. I'd suggest giving them 3-4 weeks notice. Even though I wasn't moving I planned on telling them 2 weeks ahead of time but was told that I should do it 4 weeks ahead of time because that way they have time to fix the schedual and in your position...they'll need to hire someone else seeing as you're not coming back.

Anyway...good luck! 0o0 so exciting moving and all!

I worked for half a day on the day I left and there were no problems.  I had everything packed and ready, and I left for the airport after leaving work.

Okay, so I gave my notice today.  Everything went really well and I'm glad its over with.  One of my bosses even started crying and hugged me! Basically, they said if I need any letters of recommendation, they'd be more than willing to help and I always have a position there.  So, they are sad that I'm going, but happy that I'm going to be with my husband.
It took A LOT of stress off me!  Now, I just need to focus on the pets scheme program and selling my car!!

YAY!  I'm so happy to hear that!  Congrats on just getting it over with!   :)

Congratulations on submitting your notice - isn't it great to actually know how people feel, rather than walking on eggshells?  Which day did you end up picking?  Wednesday or Thursday?

Don't you feel great now? Now they will refrain from heaping too much work  on you and will heap their appreciation instead! When you're under the stress of moving it's nice to have some of the stress of work lifted. Everyone will be more understanding. Or that's been my experience. Congrats!

Thursday.....just to make sure everything goes smoothly.  If they are okay and the person who is to replace me (they acted fast and started putting ads in papers today) is trained and ready, I'll leave sooner.  Doubt it though...I don't think they realize how much work I do.

Thank you...Sadly, I think I'll be busier before I leave.  I'm supposed to start making "how to" booklets for everything I do!!!  At least I'll be able to get overtime!  :D
