Kitchenaid mixer
« on: April 21, 2006, 08:19:53 PM »
I received a beautiful red kitchenaid mixer (the Artisan one) as a wedding gift and it really means alot to me sentimentally. I would like to keep it and bring it with us to the UK. Is that something we can do? Can we replace the motor with one that will work in the UK or can we kept it as is and just change the plug? Has anyone brought one over? Any info would be great. Thanks! :)

I gave my Kitchenaid Artisan mixer to a foodie friend when I left. They do sell them here, but they're pretty pricey. I haven't yet bought a new one. I'm not sure how you'd go about switching it over to make it work in the UK -- sounded like too much bother to me, which is why I left mine. I do miss it, though! Aren't they fantastic?

They are wonderful! Great for those hard to mix, thick oatmeal cookie recipes. :) This was a gift from a dear aunt and really means a great deal  to me. (And it means alot to my husband ...who eats the cookies.)   ;D

I'm very willing to put the effort into bring this thing with me.... I'm just not sure if it will work!

I did the same thing and it broke my heart. They are much more expensive here so I don't plan on buying one anytime soon.  My mom has one that is nearly 30 years old, still running great!

I brought mine and use it often!  No way would I want to spend the money on one here, they are ridiculously expensive!  We bought a step up transformer to run my mixer... read this .. http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=19027.0 towards the end of that thread I posted where we bought it.  Very happy with it too!  :)

Good link, jenn, thanks. I have been looking for another one of those since we have been here. I bought one in Germany for my Bose stereo.

Wonderful!!! Did you need to do anything else other than use the step up transformer? Or is that it?

BTW - BLAH! BLAH!   ;D  I loved that show! I wish they would do the same thing they did with Family Guy and bring it back to life!

We also brought ours and have successfully used it with a transformer.  That's all that we use with ours and have never had a problem.  We left a lot of things behind, but I didn't want my Kitchenaid mixer to be one of them!!   :)
