I haven't done it, but there's info on the embassy's website:  http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/acs/scs/voting.html

I've done it.  This was back before the 2004 presidential elections and both parties were really pushing it on you. It was fairly painless. Unfortunately I can't remember the site (or find it now). But basically the site put you in touch with the Town clerk of the town in which you were last registered to vote. The clerk then sent me the State specific forms in the post. I just posted them back. This isn't extremely helpful I realise but I'm basically trying to say that you wind up communicating at a local level despite being overseas. Might be worth just contacting your town clerk (or your last US town clerk). I haven't lived in the US for ever and they still were happy to let me do this.

OR, if you're not independent go to the party's UK site:

Obviously you can use any of the above and vote any way you like ;)

A fellow American expat friend told me about this website.  She registered to vote through it.

Thanks for that, wvgirl! I tried registering through my local board of canvassers when I first moved here, but they gave me such a runaround. They kept insisting that unless I had a valid current Rhode Island physical address, I couldn't register. I don't think they understood -- I'm a US citizen and I pay taxes!!! Anyway, I hope this works. I'm having trouble printing it out, but that's just my computer.

Thanks again!

The RAVA tool on the overseas vote foundation site is by far the best tool, its non partisan so they are not using our details for political mailings
