I get them often as well. (Or I used too)

1)  Toothpastes and mouthwashes that contain the foaming agent sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) can cause, or have an aggravating effect on canker sores. Check your toothpaste!

I have suffered from canker sores since I was a child, often getting 3 at a time. A few years ago I started using toothpaste without SLS and the problem completely went away. It really felt like a miracle! If you are in the US, the toothpaste, Biotene is good, but expensive. In the UK, Superdrug has a toothpaste for 35p called Just Toothpaste that doesn't have SLS.
Good luck, I know how horrible it can be!  :-[

I'm much like pkessler, I am allergic to SLS, (which is derived from coconut FYI.) I switched to Sensodyne toothpaste and it cleared up as well.  I'm going to try the Superdrug toothpaste, can't beat .35p, thanks for that.

Thanks guys.  I'll give some of these a try.  I get canker sores from time to time, but these ones are killers!  >:(

(Ok, no more whining about them, promise!)

I've had those killer ones (I think combined with stress) there is nothing worse.  I hope they get better soon.

I suspect stress is probably at the root of the problem....guess I'd better learn to deal w/it in a more healthy manner!  :-\\\\
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

just thought i'd add my two cents...

i started getting them when i was about 15 (huge ones...like a cluster of them the size of a dime!) and quickly realized that it was from citrus fruits (oranges, tomatoes, lemons, limes, grapefruit, etc.).  i stopped eating those and i don't get them anymore....well...actually...i get them sometimes when i eat spaghetti bolognese (not nearly as severe as when i was 15 though).  when i do, i use Zilactin (US) or Abreva (US) and they go away pretty quickly.  if you'd like a natural remedy, you can try using tea tree oil.  it doesn't taste all that great, but it works.

Yes my husband found exactly the same thing - switched to Sensodyne Ultra Gel (didn't know about the Superdrug cheap version though!).
