Got a form to fill out from the hospital?

I got a letter in the mail saying the hospital will decide if I am eligible under NHS. They seem to want rather a lot of different forms of the same thing...

They want a copy of my passport, copy of the visa, confirmation I got the visa from the home office, any correspondence saying I got the visa, they ask 2 different times on the same page what Im doing in the UK, then it says if Im here for settlement to prove it by showing I sold property in the US and that I now own property here or that I am renting a place to live.

My problem with that is, it never says anywhere on the NHS site I have to prove I owned property in the US and with good flippin reason....not everyone owns property!!!! I rented in the US. I am staying with DFs parents, but we DO pay rent, would a letter from them suffice?

I know a letter from me stating I never owned property along with my visa, confirmation email etc should show them I am eligible, but I am going to be quite ticked if someone decides to throw it out because I didnt own property. Just seems a bit idiotic.

Anyone else gotten this from their surgery or hospital? I registered with the surgery, never heard anything from the NHS, this is from the hospital overseas office...

I have heard that they're cracking down on Medical tourists.  And it makes sense really, just show them what you've got.  Do you have a rent book with your in-laws?  Or a rental agreement?  It'd probably be a good idea visa wise to sort some kind of documentation out anyway.  Good luck.

i'd say a letter from your in-laws saying you're renting off them may suffice.  worse comes to worse you may have to sign some sort of rental agreement with you in-laws.  you could then show this to the office.

Really Im not

I had a letter from dfs mom for the visa saying we would be living here, but of course that was kept at the consulate.

I will start out with a letter stating from his parents that we pay rent and if they want something more then we will get it. Seems a bit ridiculous, esp since I have the fiancee visa stating I am here for marriage.

 I seem to have rather bad luck with all of this stuff It eventually works out, but at first it never looks very good.

I know it seems like a pain, but try seeing it from the hospital's point of view.  You moved over here already pregnant, you're not working, you're not married, you're staying with his parents, your other child is in the US.  I'm sure you can see how it might look like you only came over here to have the baby on the NHS.  Obviously, I'm not saying that's what you did, just that it could look that way to the hospital, and they are starting to be more strict about this.  People who aren't entitled to the NHS using it as medical tourists are a huge drain on the system.

I do, its just more worry about the possibility of someone who doesnt know what they are talking about, and making a decision thinking they do...

Maybe they just want proof of your resident address from the US.  Your passport, visa and proof of UK address should suffice.

Maybe the letter was badly worded but they can't be expected to put every documentation permutation that could possibly arise ad infinitum on their website.  I would just enclose a letter from your fiance's parents stating you are staying with them at the moment.

They just want to make sure that you aren't maintaining a residence in the States.  The thing is, I've known a lot of people over the years who've lived abroad and came and stayed with their parents to have their babies in the UK(for all different reasons) and they weren't entitled to NHS treatment because they're not resident here.  That's all they're checking on. 

Aeonix, I am sorry that you have to deal with this hassle.  Anything bureaucratic is a pain, but you definitely qualify, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Can I be honest? I am absolutely shocked at how long they have gone without instituting something like this.  I was never asked anything, and I have had a child here, the children have had all the care.  I was really surprised that they didn't want more proof that I had the proper visa, that I really was resident here.

I am somewhat surprised that the Home Office and NHS can't coordinate a bit more.  Share info- on the other hand, this could get even stickier.

Im trying, hoping its working. Im wondering if Im not like the person in the other thread about white coat syndrome, although if I am its a new development

So copying my passport isnt going so well, I dont really trust them enough to send the real thing off to them..anyone have any ideas what I can do? Or maybe recommend a place that does copying, like a kinkos?

The thing we have here is printing the copies way too dark...I think its partly because of the watermark or whatever thats called in the background.
