Another thing I thought of -- I bought my first car after having seen it parked in a highly visible area with a bunch of "for sale" signs on it.  It was in a shopping centre parking lot on a busy corner.  There were actually several cars parked there, all for sale.  Perhaps there's somewhere like that near you?

My car is more on the junky end (even though the engine is still great, it was a New England car for years and is quite rusty underneath) and I didn't want to sell it in case it fell apart or something (I worry), so I donated it to National Public Radio. (I swear years of listening to CarTalk brainwashed me!)

Then I'll get a tax deduction for the amount that it sold at auction... or a percentage of the amount, or something. It was worth less than $500, and it felt good to finally give back to NPR.  ;D

Yeah, that's another great idea.  Depending on the condition and age of your car, you may want to donate it.  My mom did that with an old car that she owned.  It went to a breast cancer charity, and she got the tax deduction.

I would love to Donate but since it is a 2005 Mazda 6 sport...and I owe....well let's say it is a pretty high number I don't think I can do that.   I do have signs up, have it posted all over the internet (not the papers yet way expensive) have had a couple calls but nothing so far.  I don't leave till Sept but I am still freaking...... DEEP BREATH!  I will keep pushing though.

Newspapers do cost more than putting signs up, but it's the only way I'd ever sell a car. I've sold three that way, and have always gotten rid of them (for very close to the asking price) within a week. To me it's well worth the money. And, really, it's not all that much.

I just sold my car in TWO days!!  how I did it? Well I posted in in a website for College Students!  This site is http://groups.google.com/group/tamu.forsale?lnk=lr and I access it from www.dejanews.com .

You may find a local university group in dejanews just by changing the first part of it, e.g. tamu.for sale is for Texas A&M for sale. I know there is a Houston.forsale forum, etc.

I thought about advertising it in the newspaper, but now I see it was easier just to post in in these discussion groups!

Good luck selling yours!
