tapioca
« on: May 02, 2006, 09:16:44 PM »
Anyone ever make tapioca? I've made it twice now and I am very disillusioned. It seems very goopy.  :-\\\\ I haven't a clue what tapioca is made from in the first place!

I could go for a Jello pudding snack right now!  ;)

when I make it I buy a packet of tapioca mix, then you have to heat milk on the hob, mix it in, and then take it off the stove and mix it with cold milk and some other stuff, and let it cool, then it will set.

Tapioca pudding is just about the same as rice pudding, same ingredients. If you've eaten rice pudding, that should be about what the tapioca is like.

Rice pud is gorgeous with lemon or orange juice/zest added.

did'ja know tapioca is made from cassava flour? That's why it tastes bland.

I am a pro at rice pudding but tapioca doesn't seem to come out the right way. I am talking about straight up tapioca not from a mix. The directions say, soak, simmer for an hour and then eat. Problem is all the starch from the tapioca seems to boil off making it sticky instead of a pudding like consistency.

hmm, perhaps I will try again after a little more research.

And because it tastes bland, it should be eaten with a massive, massive dollop of raspberry jam!!!

Yum yum!!!

My tapioca is little round thingys, that look like round rice. It's not a flour like substance. Maybe that's the difference?
