Go for it. What is the worst that can happen? That it doesn't work out here and you go back to the US? You're young, single so it's not like the consequenses are going to be far reaching. Don't make a decision not go because other people think you should. Chances are, those people who are saying that to you, don't know at all what they are talking about.
