I'd like to take Roy to a few nice restaurants in NYC while we're there this summer...anyone have any suggestions?  We both like EVERYTHING...so funky stuff would work well too!

Hiya Onetiger!

I'm trying to find stuff to purposely disagree with you about ! haha!

NYC is 'almost' my 2nd home - I'm there often and see all my relatives, their friends and mates of mine who have moved there. Alas, each time we all get to a restaurant it's been when I've been completely out of my tree ! so I can't remember specifics!

I know I went to an excellent Indian called 'Shaan' I think, and I also did Windows On the World in the WTC, I miss the WTC... Been to the Hard Rock Cafe when not so drunk and a number of smaller more ''regular' type places.

I'm sure more knowledgable people will have specifics for you!

I need to get back to NYC ..  anywhere else in the US too, I've not been for over a year now!

Cheers!  Dennis! West London & Slough UK!!

Buhkara Grill on the UES is a good Indian place.  Union Square Cafe is very good as well.  Topaz on W56th btw 6th and 7th is a good Thai, not very expensive. I used to go there often for lunch when working in midtown.

There are others, but can't think of them of the top of my head.

There are just so many places to suggest.

I always recommend Icon to people.  Rich and I used to go there all the time.  The food is fantastic as are the cocktails.

Sushi Samba - Japanese - Brazilian fusion.  Really good Sushi and yummy cocktails.  The one on 7th.  http://www.sushisamba.com/top.html

I like the bars in the Hudson Hotel, a bit pretentious....a bit dark....a bit romantic...great drinks.  http://www.hudsonhotel.com/  Don't blink or you will miss the entrance.  Also recommend as a reasonably priced nice hotel.

This is my absolute favourite.  Rich says it's the best steak he has ever had, EVER.  (This is a man who is very particular about his meat too :D)

(I usually hate recommending restaurants because I'm so scared that other people will hate the food, because I'm not picky about food.  Everything tastes good to me!)

But since you've asked about steak, I think Peter Luger does some of the best steak I've ever had.  If you have a nice night, it may be worth the trip into Brooklyn.

Steak - My brother SWEARs by this place and goes for lunch at least once a week:
Bobby Van's (it's pretty pricey)
230 Park Ave
New York, NY 10017
(212) 867-5490

Japanese-Asian Fusion:
Koi - in the Bryant Park Hotel
40 W 40th St
New York, NY 10018
(212) 921-3330
I just ate there two weeks ago and it was fantastic!!  It's a little noisy, so not a good place to go if you want a quite romantic dinner.

I second Icon at The W-Court.  I am a little nostalgic about The W-Court since that's where BF I met.  We met in the Wet Bar - it gets packed on the weekend, but they make an amazing Mojito!

For Brunch:
Eatery
798 9th Ave
New York, NY 10019
(212) 765-7080
My friend's brother owns this and it's quite good.

Keen's Chophouse is another good one my brother visits often (his 2nd favorite).
It's on 36th Street btwn 5th & 6th.

I don't do meat so I have not been there.  :P

I'm in NYC all the time, I live just outside.  I have a meeting there next week and I'll let you know if I try anywhere new.

I like Michael Jordan's Steakhouse for a drink.  I think the food is alright, but I like sitting high up on the balcony in Grand Central Station.  http://theglaziergroup.com/restaurants/michaeljordan/index.html

Junior's for that famous cheesecake!

There is a really good Italian resteraunt by the Waldorf where the old Pope (John Paul II) used to eat. I can't remember the name, though! It was someting like "(Italian male name) on (## street)". Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

They have the best lasagna in the world.

Although I hate new york (for many many reasons) I went to The Olive Tree a few years ago and enjoyed it, They have chalkboard tables and encourage you to draw on it and downstairs theres an excellent comedy club
