Calais or Le Havre?
« on: May 10, 2006, 03:24:32 PM »
Just looking for pretty strolls, parks, nice restaurants and a centrally located hotel or b&b for a few days and wondering which city is more preferable for 3-4 days.   ???

Haven't been to Calais but spent a few nights in Le Havre. I quite liked it and everything was very central.  Can't remember how far away the ferry terminal was from the city but I don't  remember a long trek or taxi ride. Lots of shops and some really good restaurants.  A very pretty park area but if I remember correctly we were chastised for sitting on the grass. Bench only, apparently. Yeah, I'd say it's a nice little getaway place for a few days.  Have fun wherever you end up!
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

Calais wasn't particularly nice, IMHO.  We've been there a few times.  Ok for a booze cruise, but not really a touristy place to be.

Hon Fleur is across the bridge from La Hauve, and it's reallly nice. Its' an ancient fishing villiage, very medieval and scenic. Great shops, and places to eat.  I highly recommend it :) We take the ferry over to La Hauve.

I can't recommend either town!  BUT, try Honfleur near Le Havre or Boulonge near Calais - MUCH MUCH nicer!
