Is there a way to prevent certain posts from being seen by groups? I figured out how to make friends lists, but let's stay that I want to make a post about a movie I saw (don't care if everyone sees), but then I make a post about going out with friends and wouldn't necessarily want my parents to read that. Could I block a "family" list from certain posts, but let them see others?

ETA: I did some Googling and found out that it's in Beta testing right now. http://www.technewsworld.com/rsstory/67431.html?wlc=1245983040

What you'd do is add all lists BUT the list you have your parent's on to access the post. iv'e done this a few times, since my mom is on my fb!

How do you do that right now? From the article I posted above, it looks like it's only available to Beta testers at this point.

All the way at the bottom of the note composition window, it says "note privacy: Who can see this?" and there's a drop down menu.  click on "custom", and this should pop up:

Then, you can either click "some friends" and add all the friends/friend groups you want to see it OR you can go down to "Except these people" and block people individually or block whole groups.

Hope that helped! AFAIK, I'm not in any beta groups, so that should work for everyone....

It looks to me like the article is referring to a change in FB where your STATUS can be blocked from certain people.  When I see the word "post", I think of a note, not your status, so what you want to do might not be an option yet.

Yes, I mean status. I just joined the other day, so I haven't figured everything out yet and didn't know what the notes were.

Oh, okay..sorry!  :-\\\\

Yeah, I tend to refer to the notes as "posts" since people port over their blog posts with it.  My mistake!

If someone wants mine, they can PM me.  I sort of have to know who you are to add you though.

ETA: Knowing who you are doesn't mean we have to be BFFs or anything.  I just don't want to add someone who has little or no connection with UK-Y or me IRL.

Met and fell in love with a Scotsman in early 2007.  Moved to Scotland early 2009.  Had to come back to the US in June 2009 to deal with idiot government employees who screwed up my daughter's passport.  Finally back in Scotland, March 9 2010.  Yes I did fly a 16 hour flight with 3 children and 2 plane changes!

Old thread...but hey ho...

I'm kinda funny and selective about who I 'friend' on Facebook.  Sort of like what Legs Akimbo said, I tend to stick to people that I either know (have met) in real life or have some kind of extended (over time) online association with.  I'm not really into the whole 'blast from the past' acquaintances thing, unless it's someone that I knew & liked (was friendly with, etc) back then - meaning like from high school, university or old jobs, etc.  It's got to be someone that I cared about back then for me to care about them now.

So I've got a friend request sitting there on FB right now & I'm dithering.  Gal I went to school with when I was a child - although IIRC, she dropped out and didn't finish high school.  We played together sometimes as children & I did consider her a childhood friend, to an extent.  She was also sometimes mean to me, as well as being a pathological liar.  We stopped palling around when we went from grade school/jr high to high school (ran in different crowds), and then she dropped out at some point.  I feel like I need to respond somehow.  Hmmmm.  To friend or not to friend, that is the question.  :P

I am probably waaay overthinking this - that's how I am.  ::)
