I did a huge purge awhile ago, when i found out someone i considered a friend had gossiped about a status i put up.

It was a long process in which i debated every possible deletion.

However, now facebook is a better place because of it.

I say delete anyone u can't trust or really don't care too much about keeping in touch with.

OK, I feel really bad now.  I am new to Facebook, and I received a friend request from someone that I didn't want to be friends with.  I thought that by clicking "ignore" I would just be sort of hiding her request so that I wouldn't accidentally add her to my friends by mistake (worried I would do this on my iphone, where I often hit the wrong button with my fat fingers).  But does this mean that she receives a rejection email from Facebook?  What does the email say?  I figured that "ignore" would equal limbo but I have a sinking feeling that it really means "reject" and I certainly didn't want to hurt her feelings!  This is a girl who was suicidal in high school.  Have I totally screwed up?!!

I wouldn't stress.  They won't get anything.  The reason I knew a few had dropped me was because they were my friends on FB but when I ran a check of my email account to see if any other friends had joined, their name came up on the list of people asking if I wanted to add them.  I knew I already had so realized I must have been dropped b/c I wasn't listed as a friend now.  Just hitting ignore could just make it look like you might not have seen the request yet.  I don't personally tend to stress if people don't add me back--it's their prerogative or they could be space cadets like my husband who NEVER notices his friend requests until I point them out to him.

Thank you Andee, and Cadenza, for the reassurance!

thats correct they wont get a rejection email. however if they add you as a friend, if they look at your profile again,it will say "Awaiting friend confirmation"  , if you select ignore to their friends request,it will go back as "Add as a friend".  nothing too major, but probably gotta be prepared to her trying to add you again

Oh, OK.  Not ideal, but I'll learn from the experience.  Thanks for the good explanation!

Lately, I have been thinking about deleting my Facebook account, especially after watching Erasing David.

Wow...totally being stalked/harassed on Facebook by some psychotic woman (wife of an ex that I haven't seen or spoken to in over 5 years!).  I had already made myself unsearchable and put my profile as private as the settings would allow.  Plus I had blocked her about 6 months ago for being a psycho.  Anyway, she created another account for the sole purpose of being able to send me more messages (which I received last night...after 6 months of thinking I had successfully blown her off).  So I had to go in and change my settings again so that only friends can send me messages and only friends of friends can send me a friend request.  Freaking ridiculous!!

The film sounds interesting. Man, I bet someone would be really bored if they had to investigate my Facebook. Not a whole lot of scandalous or interesting things going on there!  :P

I guess I can't really say I hate Myspace since I met my hubby through the site back in 06. And I like that it allows you to design your profile (for the Artist in me), but as great as that is I just don't care for Myspace anymore! Ever since I was  converted to Facebook, I prefer that site so much better!

My facebook link is in my profile, I think I have most of my info blocked if your not added as a friend. If you really want to get to know me, send a friend request.  :)

Just FYI, I clicked on your facebook link and I can see pretty much all of your info details without being added as a friend, so you might want to look into tightening your privacy settings if you don't want everyone to see them (when you're in the Privacy Settings section, you can preview your profile so that you can see what others see when they click on your name).

Has anyone had problems with their PM's on facebook? I'm paranoid that on my profile, the "send messages" setting is gone. Then again, I could just be a complete L.O.S.E.R and not grasp the fact that I can't see "send messages" because it's on my own profile. I've been on facebook for ages, surely I can't be this thick?! And anyway, I reckon the fb people would've sent me a message to say that I've been blocked off, right? Terrorize people or anything like that. Maybe I just need a holiday! :S

You can access your messages from the little conversation quote bubbles logo in the top left corner of any facebook page that you're on (it's no longer on your actual profile page).

In the top left corner of the screen, you'll see:

'Facebook' (white writing), then a symbol with 2 people's heads (like the MSN Messenger symbol), then a symbol with 2 conversation quote bubbles, then a little world globe symbol, all of which are just to the right of the top search box.

- the 2 people symbol is for any friend requests you have
- the conversation bubble symbol is where you access your messages/inbox (just click on it to see/get to your messages)
- the world globe symbol is for any updates since you last visited (people liking your status, replying to your posts or status updates, commenting on your photos etc.)
