What is the difference between those two recipes?  They both have the exact same ingredients, only in different proportions.

The only difference I can see is that it tells you to oil the paper so the caramels don't stick.

I had the same problem when i got here not being able to make certain things i was used to making. I had to first use alternatives for things like that. If you want a similar flavor to like miracle whip you mix salad cream and mayo and i tastes almost the same. Stuff like that. Plus certain things are called something else. you just have to go out and look around till you figure it out but there are websites that sell american food over here. One thing that is super hard to find over here is barbecue sauce its all crap over here. I have my friends and family send care packages with stuff sometimes. Its cheaper that way.LOL. hope that helped.

DW makes the most amazing BBQ sauce that she uses with pork chops.

Agreed, about the BBQ sauce! Why does everything have to be so vinegar-y, here?!?!?! Most British sauces have entirely too much vinegar, for my taste. I sure miss my Sweet Baby Ray's!!!! There is very little vinegar in a real Kansas City BBQ sauce. I think the Brits have "basting mop sauce" and BBQ sauce confused! I did find a bourbon BBQ sauce, and a maple BBQ sauce, last time I went to Morrison's. Haven't tried either yet....but I'll let everyone know how they are, once I do! ;)

I also agree on the BBQ sauce, it's not the same.

This is a nice recipe from scratch, granted you can find the liquid smoke. P.S. Mods, if you feel this reply is in the wrong topic, feel free to move. It won't hurt my feel-bads.

1 c. tomato passata
4 c. Heinz ketchup
1/2c. cider vinegar
1/2c. margarine or butter
1 c. water
1 t. liquid smoke
1 c. treacle (my original recipe calls for molasses)
2 t. hot sauce (I would substitute peri peri)
1 t. garlic powder
1 t. onion powder
1 T. demarara sugar
1/2 c. HP brown sauce (original recipe calls for A-1)
2 T. seasoned salt
1 c. Pepsi or Coke
1/4 c. dark soy sauce (Amoy is my fave)
1 t. red pepper (flakes or ground), optional

Combine all ingredients in saucepan; mix well and bring to a boil stirring constantly to avoid scorching. Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour stirring occasionally.
(Yield: 2 quarts)

I am living in the Midlands but am dying for real American hotdogs!!!  My in laws are trying to help but always buy the hotdogs in water that taste spongey. YUCK! However, I am grateful that they try. Any ideas?

We also saw some Turkey Franks in a Polish deli in our town.....they looked good but we've not tried them yet.

Try the bockwurst in a jar!!!!! I see them everywhere, even in Tesco. They taste exactly like a high-quality American frankfurter. I've been using those with finger rolls and Princes chilli con carne, to make Coney Islands!

P.S. Anything that says "American-style" here is NOT right! I bought some "American-style Yellow Mustard" the other day; the last time I remember, Plochmann's and French's didn't have a lot of sugar in them! It tasted so strange, more like a honey mustard than a hot dog mustard!

I will give them a try and the Herta ones too. You are so right about the American style tasting nothing of the sort! I still can't believe they sell hotdogs in a jar of water!  Where are the BALLPARK hotdogs? I sure am missin' them.  I was just reading another thread about how the bagles here aren't as heavy as they are at home, I have to agree with that too.  These are too fluffy, cakey even . :P

Funny that....DW cringes whenever she sees those in a jar, but she's ok with the American-style mustard! Tastes differ, and everyone has to find what's acceptable to them.
You can buy French's mustard though in Asda and Morrison's amongst others.

Is it possible to get Silk soymilk in the UK? Last time I was there to visit hubby, couldn't find it or an alternative.
Sept 2, online application
Sept 9, biometrics appointment, purchased priority & sent package to UK Consulate NYC
Sept 12, package delivered 9 am, email of receipt @2:56pm NY Time
Sept 15, passport arrived in the post with visa.
