Cool Chile @ Borough Market
« on: May 14, 2006, 03:18:37 PM »
I'm planning a quick trip to London, and just *might* be able to squeeze in a trip to Borough Market.
If i remember correctly, at the Cool Chile stall, they used to serve tacos at their stall, in addition to selling all the supplies...  do they still do this?

I looked at their website but couldnt see anything about this...

QG -it's been almost a year since I went ... they did have them then...

Maybe a quick phone call if no one answers you soon?

I'd like to know as we will be there to see a play at the Globe in June.

my cupboard is full of Cool Chile spices and goodies. it is a bit ridiculous to see all the yellow labels.  I still haven't tried the ketchup or sauces yet. Last week I made mole with the mole mix and some extra spices and chocolate thrown in. It turned out well. I am not a fan of the chocolate though... the cacao nibs are not fine enough and don't mix well when making hot chocolate like Ibarra or Abuelita.

I dont do Cool Chile very often, because i live so close to Lupe Pintos, but i will certainly pick up a few things while i am down south.

I asked Lupe Pintos if they had Mexican chocolate and they didnt know what i was on about... so the next time i got my mits on some Ibarra, i took some in to the owners at Lupe Pintos, and they seemed to really love it!  They said they were going to try to get some next time .. but that was nearly 3 years ago, and still they dont sell it.

Mmmmm... Ibarra.  The chocolatey, cinnamoney, grainy crunchiness of it!  :-*

(btw, the chipotle ketchup from Cool Chile is VERY good!)

You think Ibarra is grainy and crunchy? I have some in my cupboard I recently made and it is NOWHERE near as grainy and crunchy as the cool chile stuff!! It is sooooo much better than Abuelita though!!

The Ibarra is grainier and crunchier than 'normal' (US or UK) chocolate....  that's what i meant!  ;)

Definitely if you eat it raw too  ;) I just tried the Green and Black's Maya Gold, now that is yummy! I like the little bars you can buy at the train station for a quick fix!

I do eat it 'raw'!
I've never actually made it into a drink... just eat it 'as is'.  Love it!  :)

I've not been to Borough Market for about a year and, yes, we did visit the Cool Chile stand, good stuff!
We did go to Portobello Rd Market and they have a stand there, too and we got some good food.  I don't think it was tacos, I can't quite recall but they were selling some hot foods.  DW has made the mole sauce with burritos, soooo good *drool*
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround
