Cake Help!!!

Well since that cake lady was an hour and a half away, we decided to go with this one:

Ooooh, now those are some beautiful cakes!

I was lucky because one of the florists I used -- there was a lady who worked there part-time that also does wedding cakes.  It worked out really well because I was able to do flowers & cake in one stop, they were local (within 1/2 mile of where I live), and reasonably priced.  What I wanted (in flowers & cake) were a little different from what they were used to doing, but they really took on my ideas & ran with them.

My MIL arranged the cake for us, as we were in London, but getting married in Glasgow.
She used a local baker... and the cake was an absolute embarrassment.  So ugly;  so unprofessional.  I even tore up all the photos that had the cake pictured!

I would vote for going with the professionals!

I don't know what british traditions besides the cake there is, so probably have to talk to him about that, so that he doesn't feel like I'm taking the one british tradition there is, away from him :p

We had a chocolate sponge with white chocolate ganache, made by my sister-in-law that got absolute raves.  She's used the same tins to do the fruitcake for their wedding in August - somehow I don't think as many people are going to ask for more cake!

Just a regular old wooden spoon?!? I've never heard of that one! Here, people give Welsh love spoons as wedding gifts, but they're carved and very ornate with different symbols for different aspects of the relationship. I have a friend who carves them and I took one to a wedding in the US last year -- they loved it!

LOL. Yep, just a wooden spoon. Well, she did decorate it with a ribbon and a horseshoe. It's hanging in our bedroom! She was surprised I hadn't heard of the tradition before!
