Coming up to London-looking for sushi and tex-mex
« on: May 18, 2006, 07:20:30 AM »
We will be up in London for a few days at the end of the month.  While there I would love to find a good place for sushi and a good place for tex mex.
We are staying near the Royal Albert Hall.
Any suggestions?

Yo Sushi is easy and there are tons of them...http://www.yosushi.com/

Cafe Pacifico has decent Mexican...not like back home, but decent...http://www.cafepacifico-laperla.com/cafepacifico/index.htm

There have been some good Mexican food recommendations in this thread:

Noto sushi is brilliant. Wasabi is good too. Not sure about Tex-Mex!

If you are looking to splash out a bit on Sushi try

Nobu Berkeley
http://www.noburestaurants.com/
(I still don't think they are taking reservations - first come first serve)
Near Green Park Tube Station

Roka

Near Goodge Street Tube Station

roka was pretty good.....but it was so expensive it turned me off a bit. i mean, really, it's not nobu!

la perla is the sister of cafe pacifico near tottenham court road but i'm not sure it's as good.  we usually do pacifico.  Don't go to the texas embassy.  i've been nothing but disappointed by their food every time i go!

Agreed that Roka was expensive probably not the place to gorge yourself on, but I like the bar downstairs (Sochu).

A little bit of thread hijacking (Sorry).

I can't seem to find any mid range Sushi places - places where you can order off a menu and not break the bank.  Yo Sushi (and the other conveyor belt places) are fine for a quick fix, but want something with unique flavours and tastes. Any suggestions?

See I liked the Texas Embassy..better than I did Cafe Pacifico...

A site I use alot is
www.londontown.com and they have a restaurant section that tells you all the places to go and they have them listed in genre.....

Thanks everyone!   :)  I'm looking forward to trying out some of these. We're coming up for the David Gilmour concerts so it will just be hubby and me.

I know this is a bit late, but for others who are interested I second the Cafe Pacifico rec.  I loved the food there.

You will get more sushi for your money by going to a Korean Restaurant. I don't have a specific recco, but they alway seem to be down some side ally.

For Mex, Taqueria near portobello road is the best of a so-so lot. I was at Cafe Pacifica yesterday, very blah, but it scratched the itch. 9 quid for a smallish plate, five for a bearable margerita.
