Ahhhhh.   Harry & David!
Even stuff I don't like - I like when it's from H&D!
Chocolate covered cherries for example.....I've hated them since I was a kid.  But H&D's cherries?  I have to freeze them in small bunches so I don't go through the whole bag in one sitting!

And their August Peaches....................euphoric!

I just ordered a box of Cheesecake Petit Fours for my sister's birthday, and a Country Style Peach & Berry Pie for my dad's birthday... ridiculously expensive, but i hope they enjoy them!

Word of warning if you are using their website.... their website does not accept British/foreign credit cards!  I had to phone my order through, but they were very helpful on the phone and accepted my British credit card with no problem.

That's weird...my card always goes through.  Could be that I've ordered from them for a while so they didn't notice when my address changed?

Your dad will LOVE the pie -- sent my grandpa one last year and he still talks about it!  ;)

I tried 3 different cards, putting the number in several times in case i had mis-keyed it, but it wouldnt go!

But it worked out ok in the end, phoning them up.  The girl i spoke to said it was because it was a foreign card.  :-\\\\

Another good place to order gifts from is A Southern Season in Chapel Hill, NC.  They have a good website, and lots of variety.  I find the prices a bit more reasonable than H&D.
I just sent my grandparents a birthday tower and they loved it.  It was three tiers of snacks, pound cake, chocolates, etc and even with shipping only cost $26.00
It was a web special deal.

If you are ever in Chapel Hill, their restaurant is excellent also.

Where do H&D ship from?
They've suggested adding $8.95 for 'warm weather shipping'  :-\\\\

Ah, thanks!

Though I suppose I should still fork out the $8.95 just in case. >:(

Not sure yet!
The first lot should be delivered today, but it's still early-ish there.
The 2nd lot isnt delivered till Dads birthday mid-August.

Well, my first-ever order from Harry & David has ended in disaster.

My sister's parcel of cheesecake petit fours was meant to arrive on Friday, but didnt turn up until Monday, by which time it was a stinking box of brown cheesecake soup, which leaked all over her pale carpets.

Harry and Davids were very apologetic when i phoned to complain, and have sent another cheesecake out to my sister, but...  it doesnt really help her disappointment, or the fact that she had to spend her birthday scrubbing shite-coloured sludge out of her carpet.    >:(

Oh dear, that sucks.

Was there any option of the wrapping for hot temperatures?

I keep trying to order the cherries to send to my aunt, but each time I select my own date of arrival, as I am given the option, it comes back saying "Sorry, that date is not available"  :-\\\\

The girl that took my order over the phone never mentioned any special treatment for hot weather... i would have paid extra to have that.  She only said that it was a 2-day shipping service, and the items would be packed in something like dry ice.

Well, I finally had to call them to find out why I couldn't have my item arrive the date I selected, as suggested on the site, she then proceeded to try to take my order...I had to stop her to ask "how much is the shipping going to be?"

Turns out, the cost would be more to ship the item THAN THE ITEM ITSELF.  :o (within the same state!)
Ferget it.

Would be nice if they explained that on the site.
