Help with info about getting married

I am American and have been living in the UK for 4 years, my boyfriend is English and we have been together for 2 years.  We are planning to get married next year.  We've looked online for info about what we need to do, but only seem to find information about me coming over after living in America.  Does anyone know what we need to do?  Where do we get started and what forms do we need?  We will continue to live in the UK after this.  When do we start applying and such.  Thanks for any of your help.

I am here on a work permit, I have been here teaching and will be on the work permit again next year.

In order to marry in the UK you will need to apply for a Certificate of Approval (unless marrying in the Church of England).  You can then make an application to switch to a spousal visa, but you may find that you will be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain if you stay on the work permit.
