Fiance Visa versus Marriage on a visitor waiver
« on: May 27, 2006, 12:24:27 AM »
hey everyone...

posted in reply to another plea for help, but didn't know if anyone would see it so am posting again..sorry for being repetitive but getting desperate.  Anyway I am curious whether there is any point in applying for a fiance visa at all.  I was told by an immigration officer that it would make the transition in citizen status for my fiance to go more smoothly if we have a fiance visa before be get married, but if I can just marry him when he's over for a visit why waste the money and time for that matter??  I dunno the whole things seems strange...why even apply for the fiance visa if you don't need it...anyway if any of you have some advice on this I'd greatly appreciate it.  I'm from the US and my fiance is from the UK where I met him during my year of study in the UK.  Thanks for any advice you all have!!

really depends where you want to get married and where you want to live. If you want to get married in the UK and live in the UK you will need a fiancee visa. If you want to get married in the US and live in the UK you wont need one.
