How long does the ILR process (by post) take?

I can apply in mid Oct (28 days before my 2 yr visa expires).  We want to travel to the USA for Thanksgiving.  I am wondering how long the process takes?  Would we have our passports back in time?

The website says to allow 13 weeks for processing, but someone recently posted that the turnaround is more like 4 weeks.  That'd still be cutting it pretty close....I would be inclined to apply in person, but I can't stand waiting for anything.   ;)

Current average for straight forward apps is 6 weeks.
