How long was it before you met your S.O.?

That is, if you met online. Did it take you years to meet up? Months? Days?

Basically, I'm just a bit worried. I met someone a while ago (not online), he lives in the UK & I won't get to see him again for at least another year or so...I'm afraid that sometime during that year, we'll lose contact or he'll get bored of me. So have any of you gone a year or more before meeting up with your British man/woman?

We started online dating in Nov 2001 and he came here to visit in Jan 2003...then again in November 2003... and I went to see him in August 2004 and then we went all of 2005 without seein eachother and I saw him again in May 2006 and will go another year without seeing him...but next year ill see him twice.

Don't worry about it...have you heard that saying...absence (haha sorry misquoted!) makes the heart grow fonder?

I think it's true...also time just makes you yern for them and by the time you see them you can't get enough so it's good in that sense but it's very hard to deal with.

Oh my, let's see.  I don't even know how long it was!  Several years.  I think around 3 or 4?  But we were just close friends for most of that time.  As far as the time between admitting feelings for one another and meeting in person goes...that part was about 6 months.

I met my guy in 1998 online, I flew to the US and we met in person in summer 2001, he'd asked me to marry him in spring 2001, thought it might be a good idea

We then met again Oct 2002, the August 2004, last meeting was Oct 2005 and we are applying for a fiance visa as it's been more than long enough to be apart.

I totally agree with reeeka, absence makes the heart grow fonder, I sob when I have to let him go and I found it much more difficult letting him leave me than when I leave him.

Met online on January 17, met in person on January 19.  He didn't live across the pond yet, so it wasn't a big deal!

I met my Brit online in January, but we started doing the more-than-friends-but-not-quite-bf/gf thing at the end of February/beginning of March.  I met him for the first time almost exactly two weeks ago

So... 4 months total, but really only 3 months since we started unofficially "dating."

Met online April 2004, met in person August 2004 for 2 weeks,then came back over in November for 6 months,got engaged,and went back to apply for my fiance visa,been here for good since July 2005

We met online June 2004, met in person November 2004. Then visits in March 2005, November 2005, March 2006, and another visit coming up in July 2006. It's not easy to spend so much time apart, and each time we are together it's harder to say goodbye. Good luck to you!

My husband and I met online January of 2003, met in person in November of 2004 for one week, so it was nearly two years from meeting online til we met in person. He went back across the pond until August of the following year, when we got married, and we came back to England in October.  

Met online in mar/april 1997.........Met in real time July 5th 1997 he flew to Tulsa.......and then again in October of 97
and I moved here Nov of 97.......

I met df in person while doing a study abroad fall of 2004, but I was dating someone else at the time.  We were just friends, and then my S.O. at the time broke up with me after I came back to the States.  Df stayed in contact though (which sure shocked me).  We didn't really get around to flirting until about this time last year, and decided we had feelings for each other.  It was not until Christmas that I could afford the time/money to come see him though.  That was about a year after I'd seen him before.  Definitely agree with "absence makes the heart grow fonder."  Or at least in our case, gave both of us some courage!

we met online Feb 2005, he deployed to Iraq 2 weeks later, where we stayed in constant contact, i visited him October 2005 when he got post deployment leave, and we went to visit his family, os it was 8 months.

Started IMing after both of us posted on the Red Dwarf Fanclub board in December 2002,  officially a couple 29th January 2003, met in person 3rd of April 2003.
