We are currently not naturalised UK citizens, but could apply in 2008.  We're here on HSMP, have residence permit until we'd need to apply for ILR.

From everything I've read, part of the naturalisation screening is to identify those who truly want to reside in the UK.  But for how long do they want to prove you want to live here?  How do they evaluate a family's 'intention' to live in the UK?

We would very much like to move to France, or another EU country to live and work someday.  Having the EU passport would obviously help tremendously with this dream.

We wouldn't be dumb enough to state such a thing in our application for naturalisation. :)  But we also don't want to have our citizenship revoked if say, we move to France six months after becoming naturalised citizens.

Can someone point me to the official language on this?  If there is such a thing?  Is there an official or mandatory length of time to reside in the UK after gaining naturalised citizenship, before moving abroad?  And if we move abroad as naturalised UK citizens, how many years before we would lose that UK citizenship (if ever)?

Thanks much in advance for any help at all.

Citizenship would not be revoked if you decide to move abroad.  It would only be revoked if there is evidence that you lied on the application.

Thanks.  But could 'lying on application' be something like we said we were planning on residing and working in the UK 'for the foreseeable future' (official language phrase) and we moved three months later to France, for example?

Could someone really say they didn't see a move to another country in their 'foreseeable future'?

No, that would not be lying, that would be changing your mind.  I don't think you need worry about this!

I naturalized in the US last November and part of the conditions (it might be in the actual oath, I'm not sure) is that you have to intend to make the US your "permanent home...." But ironically the main reason I finally applied for citizenship was so I would have the freedom to move out of the country!  That's the beauty of nationality- gives you license to do pretty much what you want in regards to moving around :)
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12
