Good Food Magazine
« on: June 04, 2006, 10:33:36 AM »
I know some of you read it religiously.

My interest in cooking has suddenly been rekindled but I no longer get my recipe magazine from Canada (Canadian Living) and I didn't move all my back issues , so  I'm looking for a source of new recipes.

I am looking for a source of tasty meals, with basic ingredients.  My philosphy about cooking is I have to be able to prepare it from start to finish in one hour - with the exception of roasts and soups etc..

Any input into good resources would be greatly appreciated!

Good Food is a great source for recipes.  Yes, they have some faffy ones (time consuming recipes), but equally there are a lot of the recipes are quick and easy.  Why not try this month's copy.  It has a small recipe book that comes with it and it's full of quick and easy ideas.

We quite like one in that little book.  It's a couscous with tomatoes, spring onions, cucumbers, garlic, lemon and olive oil, and makes a wonderful alternative to leafy salad.  As a matter of fact, I'll be serving it today with my baked chicken.  Lighter than potatoes, makes scrummy leftovers and according to the book, is two of your five-a-day.

Funny! I was planning the same thing for lunch today.

BTW, I should mention that the issue with the little quick and easy cookbook was June's.  I just noticed that July's is out in stores now.

I think Good Food is probably the best over here. There's also Olive and Delicious - Olive is also published by the BBC - I can't quite figure out what the point of 2 cooking magazines really is for them (what different demographic are they after?) The other is the UK version of the big Australian cooking mag. Sainsburys and Waitrose also have decent magazines but are ultimately geared towards promoting their own stuff. I think there's another one out now called Fresh but I've never looked at it too closely.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Love Good Food mag!  Been a subscriber for about 3 years now.

I also love the Good Food recipe books - have one pot, cheap suppers, and simple suppers.

Excellent!

I'm obsessed with Good Food. I let my subscription lapse and now I'm waiting for a really appealing freebie before I sign up again. But I buy it religiously. I actually really like Delicious too. I got the feeling that Olive was a tiny bit more upscale and had more about dining out, etc. in it? Not sure about that though as I've only leafed though it a couple of times.

I like the Food Mag that comes with the Observer once a month. You can also read it online.
