Low sugar cake

Baby is approaching is first birthday and what mother wouldn't enjoy the tradition of letting baby get all gooey and covered in his first birthday cake.

However, I refuse to give him a store-bought cake full of sugar.  I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a low sugar cake that would be suitable for a baby.  I was thinking about an angel food cake or perhaps some ginger bread (he liked my Xmas gingerbread cookies) or maybe even banana bread.  But before I choose one of these, I thought perhaps I'd see if anyone has better suggestions.

I've settled on a gingerbread recipe from Schwartz.  We'll probably give him some low-fat whipped cream so he can do the truly messy thing.

I was going to suggest that you stick to those two you metnioned.  Most other low sugar cakes use artificial sweetners which I am not so sure are much better than sugar.
