Need help getting from point A to point B please
« on: June 11, 2006, 02:50:42 AM »
I am flying in to Manchester Airport soon, and will travel from there to Coventry. I am planning to take a bus or train, as my arrival is early in the morning. I have searched on here for info and found some good links I have been checking out, but now need a little help please.

Is it easier to travel by bus or train in your opinion? I will have a long trip already, so am looking for the easiest route possible and would like to keep the cost down as much as I can. In checking on taking the train, I think I would wait until I arrive at the airport and purchase a ticket then just in case I am delayed.. though it looks like I will pay more to do it this way? I don't know any advice anyone could share would be appreciated more than you can imagine. I am so nervous about this part of my trip, and not sure why!  :-\\\\

That time again SillySnip?? How exciting!!

Have you checked out the Manchester Airport site yet? Lots of links there too.

Sorry I can't offer any first hand advice for up North. I've taken the train and coach around and I like them both. Straightforward and efficient.  I had a look and see the train is faster than the coach and the coach price is reasonable. Guess it all depends how long you want to travel and how much money to save.

You will have a great time!! Safe travels.

try www.transportdirect.co.uk  it will tell you how to get from point A to point B, everyway possible.

also www.midlandmainline.com

It will tell you exactly what you need to know.

When we came over, we landed in Manchester and took the train (with our 3 suitcases and 4 big duffel bags)  It was the easiest way.  People were very helpful to us, even helping to carry our stuff when we had to change trains.  Also, the train station is in the airport so it is really easy to get from the arrivals to the train.  WE then took a cab from the train station in Leicester when we arrived.

I have found taking the train always very easy! I would vote for that over the bus personally.

another vote for the train! It's easier to navigate than the bus I feel and will usually take less time.  A quick check at www.thetrainline.co.uk (my favorite UK train site) sees that you'll most likely have to change twice to get from the airport to Coventry, although there are a few trains that go straight from Manchester Piccadilly or Stockport to Coventry a few times a day so if you can get one of those that would probably help you out since you'll only have to change once. :)

Yes it is that time again lol. I am so excited, and this is the first time I will be heading over when the weather is a bit warmer so that will make for a change! Then again I don't care what the weather is doing as long as I get there  [smiley=heart.gif]

Thank you all so much for your help. I have been searching the links you provided and checking my options, only to find he has booked me a trip for when I arrive lol. Just found the email that he booked me a coach yesterday as it seems the easier of the options, it goes straight through. I still need to work out the return so am using the information you ladies have shared to check that out. Thanks again! You all rock!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I use the Manchester airport for my commute back and forth for work in the US. I take the train frequently to/from Cleethorpes which is only about 15-20 minutes from our little village. It's just under a 3 hour trip and not bad at all.
As mentioned already, the rail station is right in the airport, making transfers very easy.
So if you do use it on your return, you'll find it extemely easy ;)

Hey atlcollie, I take the Cleethorpes train from the airport too- I get off at Sheffield though :) I wish it came more frequently though- this last trip I got to the rail station just after the train left so I had to wait another hour for the next train :(
