Does employment have to be fulltime in order to get a work permit and visa?

Can you get a work permit and visa on part time employment?  I figure it is a waste of time trying.
I would rather have fulltime employment but alot of jobs are part time.  Am I wasting my time
trying to get a job that is part time that I will need a visa and work permit for?

You won't get a work permit for a part-time job - it'd be too much work for someone on the UK side to do...and it'd probably not be a job that would need someone from outside the EU to fill.  In order to get a work permit (and the entrance clearance), your place of work would have to prove that they cannot fill it by anyone in the EU, so it's tough to get a work permit.

Thanks that is what I thought... I think this company missed the fact that I need a visa/permit to work.. the job is only 25 hours a week.

IF you are here on a tourist visa (6 month thing) you not allowed to work at all.....

I was issued a work permit for a part time job, 15 hours/week.  I was in country already, which may have made a difference, but it can be done.  Just depends on the employer I think. 

 

Okay....I would really like more detail of that, as the rule clearly state "normally on a full time basis" and I have seldome come across exceptions to this.

I am a nurse working for the NHS.  They applied for and got me work permits, not once, but twice now for a 15 hour/week post.  The first was a temporary contract for 12 months, the second one permanent, but both part time posts.

I am a nurse too and was just wondering how long it took for you to get  a work permit with the nhs?  Are they pretty quick or slow..?
