What we'd call oatmeal in the US (ie like Quaker instant oatmeal sort of thing) is porridge in the UK.  I especially reccomend the Golden Syrup flavour it's very yummy.  So if you're looking for US-style Oatmeal, you want something labeled "porridge oats" or "oats 2 go" or "oats so simple".  There's also some other sort of oatmeal, that is not the flat flakes like Quaker, not sure what that is like taste or cooking method wise.

You can get Steel Cut oats which are often sold in the US as Scottish Porridge oats..

they take longer to cook, are higher in fiber and better for you ... and yummy..

I use Scottish Porridge Oats and put it a bowl with some coo (milk) and blast it with the microwave for 2-3 minutes( stir it as req'd), add a spoon of brown sugar and walla,

And a lot lot cheaper than if you buy oats in the packets. I never use water to cook oats but that's me.

As far as I know the packets have the same type of oats, just more ground up and have stuff added to them like salt, sugar etc etc
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Ohh, that sounds really nice, I'll have to try it that way.

Wayyy better for you than plain old oats.  Its what I cook to usually, unless Im lazy and in a hurry, then its just boring oats!

yes, the rice dream vanilla is gorgeous!  I've got most of the people in my office hooked on it as well!

Oat milk, i've never seen commercially available, but i make my own.
Soak porridge oats overnight in water.... drain off the liquid and drink it!   It's really nice.

wow that's it? I always thought it was an involved process and other ingredients.
Can't say I have ever noticed in the shops either.

What do you do with the 'used' oats? Put more water on and cook them?
