Protein-rich snacks
« on: June 16, 2006, 07:59:25 PM »
I need ideas for some healthy protein-rich snacks that I can eat a couple of times a day at work, in addition to my lunch.

Fruits and veggies alone don't do it for me; I need protein.

The problem is that there is no microwave or fridge where I work, so I need snacks that can be kept at room temperature all day.

I also can't eat dairy, so cheese and yoghurt is out. (Not that I would really want to eat yoghurt that had been kept unrefrigerated all day.) I've thought of nuts and if desperate, warm soy yoghurt. Anything else?

nuts would be your easiest bet if you cant eat dairy and have no fridge, so many nuts to choose from too!

What about protein bars?  There are a number of varieties available.

Can you bring a small, insulated bag w/some ice in it?
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Thanks. Protein bars can be a good idea, if I can find ones that are really healthy, and not just overpriced candy bars.

I hadn't thought about bringing ice.

If you freeze a plastic bottle with some water in it (3/4 full), you can drink the water when it's unthawed by lunch time.  It should keep your snacks cold enough. :)
