World Cup!!!
« on: June 10, 2006, 02:18:10 PM »
Ok, I don't give a fig about soccer, but it's the only game in town right now!  This is a UK/US website -- so those are the two primary choices in the poll.  (There are too many teams to list them all!)  If you are rooting for another country besides the US or UK, then tell us which one.

I opted out of the question when DH asked -- so, are you going to cheer for England or America?  I'm for Brazil! ;D

Use this thread to talk soccer if you want.  Or moan about it.  I'm a 'plastic' fan (haha - not really a fan) so it doesn't matter to me how you feel about it.  Lol!

I have to go for England and USA. And I do wish they would play against each other, that would be so much fun to watch. ;D

I'm not really supporting any team, but I am enjoying watching it.  Especially since the networks have decided to air it here - ABC is actually showing the second half of the England/Paraguay game as I type!  Of course, once the Cup is over soccer/football will cease to exist on US television (aside from Spanish-language stations) so I figure I should enjoy it while I can. :)

And don't get me started on my friend who lives just outside of Munich and can't be bothered to have anything to do with it... ::)

I tend to support England more than the US.  I know more of the players and follow the games.  I support the US more out of habit.  If it came down to a US v England game then I'd have to support England.   :)  Even my Mom supports England.

The Netherlands

Yeah -- I'm torn on that.  Brazil and The Netherlands are both the most amazing countries -- in different ways, of course. :)

I shall hope both USA and England do well but if I had to choose. I would choose England because it means so much more to England. Half the people in the States won't care if we win. I watched the match and can't help thinking of how much fun it would be to be there for the entire month of foootball!!  Frankly most of our athletes are so spoiled, they complain and pass up chances to play for their country in the Olympics. It's all about me me me!

It's refreshing to see Athletes play for honor and display sportsmanship.

I support both England and the US but I know more about the England team.  I hope for England to win.  I think that if the US were behind football/World Cup like England is, I might be a little more excited for my home country, but really.....it's not a big thing here.  Which is sad, because it's a very exciting game!  I cannot wait to go to my first match after I move.

I do hope the US does well.. I haven't decided who I want to win yet. Usually, I develop an affinity for a team and follow them.  Last WC it was Senegal.  I loved watching them play.

DH received this the other day. I thought it was worth a chuckle..

I'm supporting England and Australia.  Australia because I have friends from there (both past and present) and I like Commonwealth countries.

Andrea, I supported T&T in their match today!  It was a beautiful hold-out against Sweden.  I love underdogs!!

LOL!  I didn't watch the match but followed the scores (or lack thereof)...little bit of an upset there ;)  I called my parents who were completely into it, of course- seems like they've got World Cup fever!
