Return shipment of documents?
« on: June 21, 2006, 01:24:56 AM »
We've compiled our binder of documents for my Spousal Visa and I know we're suppose to provide a money order for a certain amount to cover return shipping. All in all, our folder weighs about 2 lbs. I've checked with FedEx (as I read somewhere that they FedEx your stuff back to you overnight) and shipping can range anywhere from $5 to $56! :o

I've read here and there about people making the money order for $12, but I can't seem to find any solid proof that this is the correct amount (I thought I saw it on a Visa website some time ago, but can't seem to find it now).

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! :)

When you pay online they include the cost of return shipping to you in the fee.  The "regular" cost is $494 but when you choose to mail your info instead of going in person the total cost is $506.
btw, they suggest you use Fedex express.
Only Time will tell.. it's just too bad she's a closed mouth B**!!!

FYI - when I sent the documents for my girls' visas, I sent them in a binder.  The return fee was included.  They sent the documents back, but not the binder.  (Just don't send a really expensive binder in in case you don't get it back!)
When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

Thanks for the info! That's a relief!

crabbit - Perhaps they didn't send it back because the money they charged for the shipping wouldn't have been enough with the added weight of your binder? Bureaucracy's cheap! ::)

I'm not bothered about the binder... I found it in my basement and I've no idea how much it cost! :D

I'm sure that's why...it was a dirt cheap binder so I wasn't really bothered about not getting it back.  Just wanted to give you a heads up!

I sent my stuff for the fiancee visa in a plastic 13 section folder from Staples.  It worked really well for keeping things organized and they sent it back with my stuff.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I just got my 'passport' photo for my Visa. I'll be finishing the application today and shipping our supporting documents either tonight or tomorrow. I'm just shipping them in a three ring binder from Office Max. I think it probably cost about $3, so I'm not bothered about getting it back. Everything is in sheet protectors (had to have hubby mail me extra's because they use that wacky A4 paper!) and neatly organised with tabs to label all the sections and whatnot.

Wish me luck! :D
