It was not cool when I found out the chap at the gates was telling me the truth!  I was brickin' it!

I can still see him in my mind VERY clearly.

Well, here's expat's famous ghost story.  See, Expat didn't 'believe' in ghosts.  For a long, long time.  29 years, in fact.  Then one November Expat and her mom got a Britrail pass and came to the UK for a three-week holiday between Expat's temp gigs.

By the time we got to Scotland, we were grating on each other's nerves, so when we got to Stirling Castle, we decided to split up, tour separately and meet after 2.5 hours at the gates.

About 3.30-4PM, I saw a stairway that went down instead of up.  I thought that was kind of cool, so I started down.

And felt weird about it.

So I went back up, but then chided myself about feeling weird and went down.

Turned out it was a tower, b/c Stirling's on a high hill.

There were all sorts of empy chambers and windy stairways, so I kept going.

Then found myself in a chamber and couldn't quite remember which way was out.

K, so it's starting to going pretty dark, too, and it's pretty cold.  Not going to panic, I'm a seasoned outdoorswoman.

I turned around, and saw a man standing about 20 feet away.

He looks VERY solid, like a normal person, wearing Jacobite dress, but all the employees were.

So I asked him the way out and he starts walking.  A bit fast, I was panting to keep up.

He went up a flight of stairs and when I got there, I found a long hall just off it on hte right, and a door at the end which was shut.  I thought he'd gone in there and it was private, but I saw daylight and another stair and knew I could get out.

So I went out and to the gates to have a cigarette and wait for my mom.

Whilst smoking, a lovely employee came up to share a fag and he asked how my visit went.  I told him it was lovely and about hte man in the tower.

He seemed very interested in this man and asked me to describe his clothes, his features, etc.

Then he told me that man was the ghost of a Jacobite rebel who'd been executed and he hadn't been seen in a couple of years.

I thought he was having a laugh, and anyhow my mom showed up so we thanked him and got in our coach for Edinburgh.

A while later, safe on my couch in Denver, TLC featured a show about haunted places.

Cool!  Only they featured a segment on the man in Stirling Castle.

 :o

Holy s*&$!  Talk about feeling like I'd had a bucket of ice water thrown over me!

I believed after that!
everyone on here knows im a spiritual clairvoyant and have a pretty thick skin when it comes to 'ghosts' but this story really made the hairs on my neck stand on end!!

I think it's worse when you know you're seeing something that's just not normal.  Now that is freaky deaky.

I think a friend of mine said Muncaster castle is haunted.  And if it isn't it's still got cool owls, LOL.
