Hotels/B&Bs in North Wales-Portmerion/Betwys-y-Coed-etc.?

We're trying to plan a short break into North Wales-hubby is a Prisoner fan, so he of course wants to see Portmerion, and it's fine with me since there are several medieval Welsh castles up there I want to see. I know Betwys-y-Coed isn't far from Dolwyddelan, but we haven't been able to find much online and it looks like the only place in Portmerion not fully booked is the Castle which will run us £200 per night!

Anybody have any suggestions? I'd like to see Dolwyddelan and Dolbadarn, hubby wants Portmerion.

We stayed at this Holiday Camp a few years ago.  It's a good base for seeing that part of Wales and we also took a daytrip to Dublin on the Ferry which was cool.    It is a trek to get to that part of Wales but it's well worth it.  We did it with two little kids and a newborn so it was worth it to us to have the laundry, shop, pool and playground all on site.

Might be an idea to try somewhere like Rhyl or Prestatin as they're more geared to tourists,loads of B&Bs and caravan parks.Prestatin is probably less hectic than Rhyl although its been years since I've been to either.Anyway using one of these as a base you can get to anywhere you wish quite quickly.
