British Citizenship - This has to be record time!
« on: July 01, 2006, 10:50:51 AM »

I applied for Citizenship on 20th June (went to the local council and used the National Checking Service cost £40... worth it). To my surprise this morning in the post was a letter saying I have been approved for Citizenship (letter dated 27th June).

End to end....10 days!! I am soo pleased! Ceremony is at the end of July!!  :)

Isn't the Checking Service wonderful?  I would recommend it to anyone!  I used it when the IND first started it as a pilot program last year....had my appointment on a Wednesday and was approved by the following Monday (less than a week -- fantastic!)!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

 ;D ;D ;D

She just said she *didn'* use it....shows that it isn't needed for straight forward apps.

Well done!

Well, my reply was actually to Jules, who did use the service.  Sorry I didn't make that clear.  I would say that while it isn't strictly necessary for straightforward apps, it's still a good idea for those of us who want a quick decision (and I do realise that using the checking service does not guarantee a speedy decision either!)....

Yes the NCS is a great option! I had a straight forward application but it was great that it did in fact speed up the process (even though that is not guaranteed), plus the fact that they made copies of everything including our passports, marriage certificate and birth certificates so I didn't have to send all of the "official" stuff via the post and worry that it would get lost. It was worth £40! I have to say I would have paid more for the great service.  :)

thanks for the heads up about this service, jules. i'm just now digging into 'life in the UK:  journey to citizenship'.

where did you locate a regional centre that provides this service?

Expat, here is the link on the Home Office website.

http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applying/nationality/

Scroll down and you will see a link for the national checking service which will give you info on which councils provide the service.

PS - the set fee is £30 but its up to the local council as to what they charge...so in your area it may be cheaper than £40.

thanks, jules!  that's a huge help!  have ordered the book from amazon and going to schedule the exam tomorrow.  time to get the ball rolling!  i was eligible last year, but didn't get round to it - felt crap whilst pregnant and then new baby = sleepless nights and fatigue.
