It's a bit sad, but rather obvious in coming.  You still think he'll play for the national team or no?

If McLaren has any sense he will start Lennon every time.

Good riddance, any football fan knows that Beck's was and is not a leader, he never performed at tournament level and only started games because Sven favoured him. A bit of history, Beck's was given the armband by Peter Taylor who took charge of an England game against Italy, he stated that he would be picking a young side, the only established players in that team were Owen, James and Beck's, up until then Seaman was wearing the armband. When Sven took over, he did not change the captain and we were stuck with Beck's. Any one with sense would've made Cambell captain.

Anyway, a new era has begun which needs to be taken advantaged of, make Stevie G captain and he'll carry us to glory.

He'll be what.....36 y.o by the time the next world cup rolls around? He can go out with his head high, after all no one bends it like Beckham :P,  IMO one of the best of all time at free kicks and corners .....

BTW Vicky.......Roy Keane being an influence on Rooney's attitude at Man U?.....he was the ULTIMATE attitude adjuster, Patrick Viera wised up to that quickly and Celtic recognized it immediately  :P (hard Irishmen, ya gotta love "em)

The best at corners is hardly an accolade, the best at free kicks is debatable, if you take as many as he does, you're bound to score a few. Unfornately for England, we had to wait 3 years. Beckham has gotten really far with the ability he has. But as a overall player he was not great. Zidane aged 34 is up there with Pele, Maradona, Cryuff. Truely great.

Actually one of the beautiful points of the game, laying a ball on someones nut 5 feet from the back of the goal, IMO I've never seen anyone do it better.

Keane is a thug, he played like a thug, and he showed Rooney how to be a thug.  I am so damn pleased he has retired, as now I can get back to supporting Celtic.

Back on topic...Beckham has his moments, but these days they are few and far between.  Yes, he is still the free kick master, but in open play give me Aaron Lennon any day.

I've always fancied him a one-trick pony (two if you count FA marketing tool) and he really showed that in this tournament.  Sad thing was that outside of the goal, he one-trick was pretty poor.

No one really shone, that was the problem.
