I think if you go to Cuba, it should be ok on a US passport.  When DH went, we were living in the US and he flew from Mexico.  They put a visa in his passport upon entry and removed it upon exit.  There was no evidence of him ever having been in Cuba and you won't be returning to the states immediately after will you?

If you stay on the work permit, you can get ILR in May 2008, and citizenship immediately afterwards
If you switch, you will get ILR in July 2008, and Citizenship immediately afterwards...

Can I ask for clarification on the above bit?  I was under the impression that as  Work Permit holder, I would need 5 years then I could get an ILR (under current rules).  But I'd need to wait for a full year after that (a year of having the ILR) before I could apply for citizenship.  Do I have this wrong?

That would be the case if you were not married to a British citizen...but as you are, you only need to have lived int he UK for three years and have ILR - you do not need to have had ILR for 12 clear months.

Getting into Cuba on a US passport is not normally an issue, but the US does not look kindly upon it.  They have gotten a lot more stringent lately, especially with business people going there without proper permission.

Technically it is illegal in the US for a US Citizen to go to Cuba without permission from the State Department.  Something you just need to consider, though you do not run afoul of any Cuba laws by entering Cuba as a US citzen.
