I agree with the sarky. The USA was a huge disappointment. If you cannot score then you cannot win.

This poor performance should be a wake up call to the goofballs that run the USA national team. Time to start fielding a real soccer team and win next time.

That game was mad.  Hell, if I were Holland, I'd appeal the game just on obvious evidence that the ref lost control.  There were so many cards thrown that game, you didn't know who was off & who was on!  I was sad the Orangemen lost...especially in a messy game like that.

I could not believe what I was watching last night!   And I hope Figo is kicked out - but his yellow card may be pre-emptive so he'll get away with that disgusting behaviour.  What the heck was the ref doing out there?

Sad, I was actually hoping Portugal would win - until the sh*t started flying.  They can play nice football, but last night was a display of the worst kind of sportsmanship.  Now I hope England shows that they are true gentlemen and win on strength and skill and don't descend into that pile of muck.

Yes, i have to say I was really happy Beckham scored.  In spite of his ridiculous life-style, he really handles himself well, and is a good embassador for the sport and England.  I do have a soft spot for him.

the replay of him barfing though, I could have done without..

I think game would have been significantly less ill-tempered had there been a decent ref that could have handled the niggley incidents before the match spiralled out of control.

What do you consider a "ridiculous lifestyle?"  Just curious.  What kind of stuff does he do?

I guess I'm just talking about his extravegant, over-the-top, lifestyle.  In the end though, he's a pretty good role model for youth and that is what really matters to me.

I have a sneaky liking for Beckham, which a Gooner girl shoukd never really admit!  The look of joy and pride on Posh's face when he scored was quite touching too...jeez, I'm getting soft in my old age!

The ref last night was appalling, although many of those cards were deserved.  Cait is right - if he had shown a little more discipline and consistency earlier on then it could all have been avoided.

Socceroos v Italy in a few hours...and I am so tempted to shut up shop and go to the pub to watch it!!!

Oh, you should - it's going to be gooood.  Almost all of the Aussie's games have had their fans on edge, only to pull through at the end.  Great television!

Re Beckham: Did you really have to show us his puking?  Why?  He just scored a goal, so you'd think the criticism would've died down.

I've compromised...I am listening to the first half on the radio and will disappear at half time.  Not sure why, as I'm not exactly busting a gut here!

I wasn't actually sure whether Becks was puking or not.  I am worried about the dehydration problem, and hope that it is all sorted for the Portugal match.

It sounds like the 'Roos are doing great and have had more of the match than Italy have.

It's on for extra time...what a game!  I wish I were watching it instead of just listening :(

another blown game for the officials.  This has been a terribly officiated world cup.  It is really a turn-off for fans of the game.  Italy played well, but they didn't deserve to win it that way.  I'd rather seen them score a real goal and earn the win.  FIFA needs to do something about this officiating.  They are not winning new fans to the game with this display

Oh my God.  What a way to go out.  I am speechless.  They had done so bloody well, and really played their hearts out.  I'm practically in tears here and I'm not even Australian.
