Manchester Airport
« on: July 10, 2006, 12:20:02 AM »
Hey Ya'll,

My family and I are going to be flying into Manchester Airport on August 29th around 6am.  (YAY!!!)  It'll be my husband, myself, and our two young children 4 and 2 1/2.  How easy is that airport to negotiate?  We're going to need to get to Liverpool via the train or coach(by the way, what is coach?).  Either one is financially in our budget, I just wonder which one is going to be the easiest to get to.

Thanks in advance!!

Jen

the train station at Manchester Airport is directly attached to the airport itself, so it should be fairly easy to walk from the terminal right to the train station and then hop on a train to Liverpool (I'm pretty sure there's a direct train so you won't have to change.)

I use MAN airport and the train several times a month. It's super easy to negoiate--very well marked and the ticket kiosk is manned so they can help you with your questions. There are also 2 automatic machines there if you would prefer to use them. The station has just 2 tracks so it's almost impossible to get on the wrong train :)

Ditto on using the trains from manchester airport.  It is soo easy.  We navigated it (with the four of us and  our 7 incredibly huge bags) very easily.  You can take your trolly right to the track.  I ordered the train tix on line and picked them up at the airport.  It was so simple.  I just wish that cheap flights back to Canada left from Manchester.  Unfortunately, they only leave from Heathrow or Gatwick. :P

Hi, here's another thumbs up for Manchester Airport.  It is very easy to use.  From experience, immigration lines at 6am are usually very short, and you'll be through very quickly.

If you all need a break before heading out to Liverpool, can I recommend a quick breakfast stop at Cafe Ritazza at the train station.  It is always much quieter than the cafes in the terminal building, and there's space to let the kids run around.

There is a covered moving walkway from the terminal to the train station, which like someone else said, is very easy to navigate - only two tracks.  See www.manchester airport.co.uk for maps and more info.

There is a direct train from the airport to Liverpool every hour and the journey takes 1 hour.  Check www.nationalrail.co.uk for times.  It's £9.40 one way or £12.20 round trip.  The kids will be free.  There is no 1st class seating on this train, as it is a local train.

If you don't feel like waiting for a direct train, take any train from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly (the main station in central Manchester) - there are trains every 10 mins.  At Piccadilly, change for a Liverpool train - they run every 15 mins - same price ticket.  If you go this way, you can travel 1st class (more room) for £11.50 (one way) - so not a big difference, but you might appreciate the space with the kids and the luggage etc .....

You'll need to decide at the airport station whether you want to go first or second class ...

OK, have fun!
