Best place to buy laptop in the States?
« on: July 10, 2006, 03:51:09 PM »
Hi there,
I've been gone for too long and could use some help.

My mom, who lives in the States, wants to buy a laptop. I have advised on an IBM Thinkpad but am not too sure where she should go to buy it. Does anyone have any recommendations for either online or offline places to buy laptops in the States?

Thanks for you help.
Mimsy

Here are some places I went when shopping around for a laptop:

Fry's Electronics (if there is one in her area)
Best Buy (as well as www.bestbuy.com)
CompUSA (as well as www.compusa.com)
Costco (as well as www.costco.com - this is where I ended up getting my HP dv8000)
NewEgg - www.newegg.com

Hope that helps.  :)

Try www.techbargains.com [nofollow] . Click on "cheap notebooks". The site will list current/recent deals on laptops. This site isn't just for laptops. They also list deals for digital cameras, LCDs, and other tech related stuff. Hope this helps.

Yep, same here, I'd recommend Dell.  I love my Dell laptop and the customer service is super.  This is actually my second one as my first was stolen.  They had all my details on file and I was able to order an almost identical one (with some upgrades).

i got mine at bestbuy and am still real happy with it.  i told the guy i would be using it primarily for school and email, and he didn't try to upsell me to anything that i didn't need.  with the rebates i still ended up spending 1400.  but they had cheaper ones as well.  i went with the HP Invent which had just came out so it was really nice.

apple.com for a MacBook. That's what I suggest.
