HSMP - question regarding spouses
« on: July 14, 2006, 03:12:31 PM »
My wife is applying under the HSMP.  I have heard that when someone is approved under that programme, their spouse simultaneously obtains authorization to work in the UK.  Can anyone confirm that?  If not, I'll just have to apply separately for myself (but it seems a lot easier just to get it through her approval).  Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, you can join your spouse in the UK on an HSMP visa.  You can read the details here:

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1018721067257

You will still have to apply separately though and pay the separate visa fee as a spouse joining your spouse   who is on a visa.

Once the HSMP is granted, both of you will apply for entry clearance.  You can do all of this at: http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/

Thanks kitsonuk.  Do you happen to know if that gives me everything I need to apply for and work in the UK or if I will need to do something else?  Does that constitute a work permit (so I don't have to go through the process of having a future employer apply for one)?  Sorry if I'm using the wrong terms, just getting started on figuring this out.

Yes, that is everything.  No future employer needed, no work permit needed.
