[MERGED]: Email Notification from Consulates
« on: July 20, 2006, 12:54:59 AM »
Just wondering how consistant the NY Consulate is about sending off an email notification that they have received the supporting documentation.  I did ring abtran (which was totally useless) as they said that there was no way to confirm that one's supporting documents have been received for at least ten days after they are mailed in.  Does the consulate normally send an email confirmation of receipt of supporting documents, or should I expect to hear nothing until they send an approval/denial notice?

I suppose that I can't help being a bit nervous.  I'm greatly looking forward to receiving the visa, and being on my way to the UK!

20/7/2006 Received email notification that they received the supporting documents are were currently processing the application.

Not very reliable.  Chicago seems to be better, you are likely to get your response back before you get your notification that they received it.

And LA doesn't even send a "documents received" notification at all!
Now a triple citizen!

Student visa 9/06-->Int'l Grad Scheme 1/08-->FLR(M) 7/08-->ILR 6/10-->British citizenship 12/12

Hubby never had any notification that the documents were received by the NY Consulate. He used FedEx, however, and was able to track it and see that the package was signed for on the morning it arrived.

The only email he had from NY was to say that his visa had been approved.

That was my experience as well

Hey everyone

I'm just wondering if the NYC consulate gives email notifications as to whether or not you have your visa? I know it depends on individual but how any did or did not receive emails?

Ah I just posted a similar topic about notifications as to whether or not you got approved, but this is helpful too. I mailed my stuff USPS Express Mail so I'm tracking it.  ::)

ah.  I sent mine overnight, and It was signed for the following morning (Friday).  I just keep having this vision of it sitting in the corner of some mail room on the tenth floor.  I sent in 6 pounds of paperwork, and UPS shipped it in a box because of the weight.

It took NYC a week or so to let me know that they had my supporting documents and that was a month ago.  I think how long it takes for them to look at them and see what they have depends upon how many applications they have coming in at that point.  Students are probably putting their's in at this point too!  Sorry I can't be of more help, but thought I'd share my experience.

The website says "most" are processed within 5 business days.  However, I think it was one of the student websites (British Council?) that advised to give yourself plenty of time in the summer, as that is when consulates get swamped with student visas (and mine's about to join the fray!).

As someone who is currently striving towards becoming a visa monkey for the US (Foreign Service!), I can sympathise.  Can't be easy, in this heat (like they don't have AC, ha), processing 1000s of visas for people who just want to get into your country! :D
BUNAC: 9/2004 - 12/2004. Student visa: 1/2005 - 7/2005. Student visa #2: 9/2006 - 1/2008. FLR(IGS): 1/2008 - 10/2008. FLR(M): 10/2008 - 10/2010. ILR 10/2010!!

Well, I guess I'm the exception to the rule.  I just received the email saying that they have received it.  Persephone, how long did it take you to receive your approved visa after they informed you that they received your application?
