Received the visa arond half 8 yesterday.  Only to discover that it had, in fact been backdated to this Friday (the 28th).  >:(   I was under the impresssion that they backdated the visa only if you specifically requested the Consulate to do so, and if the intended travel date was several weeks off.  Naturally I had already made all of my arrangements to fly out this evening, which I now have had to push back to Thursday evening (for a Friday morning arrival at Gatwick)  So, don't be suprised if they backdate your's to the date of travel that is placed on your application.  I had put the 28th as a "ballpark" date, as I fly on an employee pass through Delta, so there is no actual "reservation" persay.

Well good luck to you both.  I basically pleaded (as much as you can in a letter!) in my cover letter to give me the date I am requesting, because I HAVE already bought the tickets.  It's a little earlier than average for a student visa, but nothing outrageous in my opinion.  I'm hoping since I requested a specific date (and told I already bought my plane tickets), that I'll get the one I want.

No notification for me either PrincessJuls02...

NYC consulate got mine the 21st and i'm in desperate need of my passport so that Dan and I can travel to the Dominican Republic on August 6th before i make the big move over on the 17th!  Mine is non-settlement (VAF-1) because i'm doing HSMP and hope for a quick turnaround.  The website indicates 2 days average review for non-settlement apps, but it's been two full days and still no email....

gosh, you guys are making *me* nervous and I haven't even applied for my visa yet!

Juls- I'm waiting with ya and crossing my fingers!  I'm sure it'll be fine- 2 weeks from now you'll be wondering why you were so stressed! ;)

alison- hope your visa gets processed very quickly- you should definitely have it back before the 6th if your application is straightforward.
Now a triple citizen!

I know, I just hate the inconsistency (sp?) Today will be 5 business days (if they count the day the received the package, Thursday). I'm hoping maybe I'll just get the approval email, or maybe FedEx will just arrive at my door...one can dream right?!  ::)

Just remember that the processing didn't necessarily begin from the time the e-mail was sent - in fact, probably before!  I remember stories of people getting their "documents received" e-mails AFTER the approval one!!  Just 2 departments not communicating, I have the feeling is the issue.  I'm trying to just relax, give the consulate the benefit of the doubt (especially in summer high season), and not even remotely start to worry until the 5 business days are up.

Seriously, guys, unless you have submitted a very dodgy application, you'll be fine.  Worst case scenario is that you'll have a phone interview or will need to send additional evidence.  I can't think of anyone who's been through here that hasn't had a fiance or spousal visa approved eventually.   ;)
